A family moving into their new home in Phoenix was bewildered when they saw a young and sad-looking pit bull lying down on the scattered cushions of an old just beside their front yard. Next to the dog were several old belongings of the former property owner. The puppy seemed to find the stuff that the previous family dumped on the curb and made himself comfortable.

But after talking to their new neighbors, they learned that the actual story was more heartbreaking. When the pit bull’s owners left the day before, they abandoned their dog and the rest of their trash. The confused puppy didn’t want to do it and stayed there. Nearby residents gave the abandoned dog some food and water.

Loyal

The new homeowners tried to find someone willing to foster or adopt the abandoned dog, but there were no takers. The loyal dog also refused to move from his spot. It was likely that he was still waiting for his owners to return.

The new family eventually got in touch with Maricopa County Animal Control and asked them to rescue the dog. Before the pit bull was taken away, the kind homeowners took his photo and posted it online. The poor pup’s story quickly went viral.

A New Couch To Lay On

After a few weeks, Tedd Wynn, a Phoenix resident and a pit bull owner saw the post and felt terrible for the abandoned dog. He couldn’t imagine how anyone could leave behind their pet. Tedd quickly called animal control to adopt the dog, and he learned that the Arizona Humane Society had taken him.

He went to the shelter where the pit bull was relocated and immediately filed for adoption. Almost a month after being abandoned, the dog named Butkus was finally heading to his new forever home.

Butkus quickly made himself home and found a new couch to make his favorite place to sleep on.
