Earlier this year, a 15-year-old Australian Shepherd Liam was abandoned on the side of an interstate. The dog was clueless about the reason. The dog was also overweight and infested with maggots, apart from being old. Despite that, she has a strong will to survive. A concerned citizen reported that he saw Belky wandering the side of a Michigan Interstate. Upon receiving the report, the local police contacted Saginaw County Animal Care and Control (SCACC) to take over.
When the volunteers from the shelter arrived, they immediately picked up the dog. They then brought her to a nearby veterinary clinic to get a medical assessment. At the clinic, the dog received treatment for the maggot infestation. According to the veterinarian, the dog’s weight was not ideal for his age. In fact, the dog likewise put on a suggested diet to lose weight. If not addressed, this may cause other problems in the future. But other than that, the dog’s vital signs are normal.
After receiving clearance from the veterinarian, the dog was shifted to the Humane Society of Midland County. The shelter’s commitment is to take good care of the dog until a family adopts him. Given his age, the shelter believes that it would be best if Liam gets adopted. This is because the shelter life is no longer conducive for an old dog like him. But even with this, the volunteers at the shelter provided the best service to the dog.
The dog’s adoption call reached the newsfeed of Breanna Dalton.
The Midland County resident has been looking to adopt a dog, and she believes Liam is the best dog to adopt. Breanna felt an instant connection to Liam upon learning the dog’s condition. Breanna is no stranger that older dogs need more attention when caring. However, she is confident that Liam will be a good fit for her lifestyle.
