It is heartbreaking to see orphaned animals left with no mother figure to look after them. Seven English bulldog pups are left on their own when their mother, three-year-old Indy, died from giving birth. According to their owner Dan Weese, he was busy tending to the litter when he realized Indy had ceased breathing. The vets tried to revive the poor mother but to no avail.
Dan and his whole family mourned for the loss of their dear Indy – they also worried for the seven puppies because they needed their mom’s warmth and milk to survive their first few weeks of life. Dan’s family took turns taking care of the litter. Following a strict schedule, Dan and his wife Katie bottle-fed the seven puppies every two hours. Their kids also took turns in providing warmth to the babies by cuddling and touching them.
Good thing the puppies responded well to the feeding. Suckling on their feeding bottles, each puppy finishes five milliliters of milk. According to Katie, seeing the puppies growing healthy eased their heartaches from losing Indy. Dan and Katie knew they had to keep up with the nurture routine for at least another month. Good thing a dog named Pixie stepped in to lend a helping hand!
According to Dan, he received a message via his Facebook account. It is from a certain “Macy Grubbs,” telling him he owns a White Labrador who recently lost her puppies. From the message, Dan and Katie learned that the dog is lactating like crazy and could be of help to the newborn pups.
At first, Dan was skeptical. He was also worried that it might be a scam. He did not want to put the puppies’ lives at risk, but Katie told him to give it a try. They called the man and set an appointment for the meetup. The next day, Macy drove from his Kentucky home together with Pixie.
The families met, unsure about the encounter between Pixie and the bulldog puppies. Pixie’s motherly instincts brought her near the pups. She instantly laid on the floor and fed the babies! Dan and Katie thanked Macy for bringing his dog to them – even for a short time, the puppies felt what it’s like to have a mother.
