When we see people living in the streets, we pity them because of their terrible living conditions. The sidewalk doubles as their bed and they flatten empty boxes so they can use them as blankets. They rely on passersby for money, and they rummage through piles of trash for food. On good days, they receive decent meals from kindhearted souls that take the time to buy food for them.
Homeless people don’t have a lot going for them, but they’re among the most selfless people we’ll ever meet in this lifetime. Quick Googling will show you countless articles showing just how kind and generous these people are. Some of these kindhearted souls have even gone as far as risking their lives to save others.
Keith Walker, a 53-year-old man from Atlanta, Georgia, is but one of many homeless people who’ve done heroic acts. He went viral last December 2020 for rescuing animals trapped inside the W-Underdogs Shelter. Walker courageously rushed inside the burning building and saved every single animal he could find.
Right place, right time
Walker admitted that he was insanely nervous when he ran towards the fire. Seeing all the flame and smoke made him want to chicken out, but he couldn’t find it in his heart to. He knew there were lots of animals trapped inside, and he felt that God wanted him to save every single one of them.
He also drew strength from his dog Bruno, whom he loves dearly. The furball has brought him so much happiness since the day they met. He didn’t want to deprive other people of the happiness they would feel should they meet the dogs trapped in the burning shelter.
No one left behind
W-Underdogs founder Gracie Hamlin was speechless when she learned about what Walker did. The firefighters who came to hose down the fire didn’t know how to handle the dogs. They had to rely on Walker to rescue each pup.
