Heartless Owner Wants Obese v To Be Put Down, But Vet Finds Him A New Home

Taking care of a dog will never be a walk in the park. It’s basically like raising a kid, something that many dog owners will only realize later on. Some who experience the hardships of caring for a dog will give up; they will abandon the dog, leave it in a shelter, or worse, have it put down.

Instead of trying harder or seeking help, some dog owners will resort to less humane ways. This is what Kai, a Golden Retriever, has experienced in the hands of his former owner. After he has put on a lot of weight, the owner has thought that Kai will be much of a trouble, believing that the dog has to go.

But Kai’s veterinarian has other plans for him:

The kindness of Kai’s veterinarian

Kai is supposed to be euthanized. However, when he was taken to the clinic, the veterinarian refuses to do the deed. Instead, the veterinarian proceeds to contact an organization called Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue. The said organization will help Kai with adoption.

Through this, Kai meets the rescuer named Pam Heggie. When Pam meets Kai, she says that she cannot believe her eyes; Kai’s size is staggering, and it is even difficult for him to walk a few steps. Kai weighs about 173 pounds, and he has to lose more than half of it. He is so big and heavy that it takes him 20 minutes to climb a small flight of stairs leading to Pam’s house.

A transition for Kai

Pam refuses to give up, and she is determined to give Kai a new and healthy life. The Golden Retriever is then put on a strict diet, and he starts water therapy to improve the strengths of his legs. Pam then takes Kai for a walk three times a day. Kai does not want to give up, either.

Eventually, Kai is able to walk further and run in the park. His progress is really stunning.

Despite what has happened in the past, Pam says she does not blame Kai’s former owners. She does not believe in shaming people, and she says that educating others about how to treat animals is more powerful than blaming or shaming.
