Diabetic Girl Gets A Hypo Dog Buddy

Mari January 19, 2023

Chloe has had diabetes since she was seven. She had to be burdened with insulin injections several times a day, and her blood sugar is monitored and checked every two hours.

Ever since her diabetes emerged, she was then stopped from having a normal childhood. Her physical activities are cut down, also her carbohydrates intake. Going out and having fun with friends isn’t as easy as before.

Chloe could not enjoy PE classes or even go out for birthday parties. Whenever her blood sugar severely dropped, she would have seizures. This puts her mom in so much worry over her daughter.

There was no way a kid like her would enjoy life with type 1 diabetes. It’s not just about the fun of childhood that’s worrying mom, Kathy, but also the fear of losing Chloe due to this illness.

In June 2018, Chloe was given an excellent coat retriever by Hypo Hounds. They train dogs for assistance for diabetic masters. This dog was named Ruby.

Since then, Chloe and Ruby have become the best of friends. Ruby would stay by Chloe’s side, from playing, swimming, and even as she sleeps at night.

Ruby’s job is actually to monitor Chloe. This super pooch could detect if there is any change in Chloe’s breathing, which could mean dropping of her blood sugar. Whenever Chloe would be at risk, her hypo dog would come and get her mom Kathy. Having Ruby gave Kathy such a relief.

Ruby has given Chloe a reason to be happier now. Not just because she has a companion to play with, but because Chloe can do more things without her mom by her side.

Having Ruby in their lives has made such a big impact. The once isolated young girl can now try and do more in life. Kathy has more peace of mind, too, knowing that she has Ruby aiding her in keeping Chloe safe.

Chloe didn’t just get a dog who provides medical assistance. She also gained a best friend who supported her in getting confident again.
