Army Veteran Gets Reunited With Lost Dog After Almost Five Years

Most of us consider dogs as a part of our family. This is why many of us get anxious whenever our dogs escape our yard and wander out in the streets. It’s likely that you’ve also dealt with a missing dog before, and you know that you’ll do everything to find them and get them back. While most people would give up the search after a few weeks, a US Army veteran named Michael Joy never gave up searching for his dog for almost five years. Army Veteran Gets Reunited With Lost Dog.

It All Began…

It all started when Michael adopted an unwanted rescue dog named Sam, who was less than a year old at that time. The families who adopted him ended up returning him to the shelter because of his high energy. Michael decided to give Sam a chance, and he also had experience in training dogs.

As soon as Michael took Sam back home, he started working on Sam’s obedience training. Michael wanted to turn Sam into a service dog or an emotional support dog. After a few months, Michael was deployed and needed to travel for work in the Army.

When Michael came back home, that’s when he heard the heartbreaking news. Michael’s wife and children told him that the dogs got out and they couldn’t find them. Michael and his family were able to find two of the dogs, but Sam seemed to have disappeared without a trace.

Michael Had To Move

Michael was hoping to find Sam and checked every shelter in the area. At that time, Michael lived near Fort Benning. However, Michael was about to be reassigned to Fort Cambell in six months, and he and his family needed to move. Michael never gave up on Sam and still checked the social media pages of local animal shelters.

For almost five years, Michael hoped that he could get Sam back. Then, on the 2nd of April, Michael got a call on his phone with an Ohio number. Michael never knew anyone from Ohio, and he normally wouldn’t answer a call from a number that he didn’t recognize. However, his intuition got him to answer the call.

It turned out that the call was from a lady working for the City Dogs Of Cleveland and informed Michael that they found his dog, Sam. Michael was in disbelief, and when his daughter asked him what he was going to do, Michael just replied that they were all going on a road trip to Ohio to pick up Sam.

Michael was both anxious and excited about the reunion. He was a little worried that Sam might not recognize him, but it turned out that he had nothing to worry about. Sam recognized Michael after sniffing him, and everyone in the room who witnessed the reunion got emotional. Here’s a video about Army Veteran Sam getting reunited with his family after almost five years of being lost.
