Unexpected situations would reveal one’s true nature. Fortunately, in the case of these hikers, what came out of them was kindness when they willingly helped someone who was in a desperate situation ─ a dog. When these hikers were exploring Australia’s Mt. Glorious National Park, they suddenly heard loud splashing from a nearby creek. They later found that it was a desperate dog asking for help.
Since the creek was quite deep, the hikers found it hard to reach the dog. That’s why they had to use a makeshift catchpole to scoop the dog from the water. According to the hikers, the dog was obviously exhausted and scared when they were trying to save her. But they did their best to save the dog, fearing that something worse might happen to her. Fortunately, they were able to pull the dog from the water, and one female hiker immediately comforted the scared dog to calm her.
They named her ‘Ms. Piggy’ for her big size. After the hikers successfully saved the dog, the next challenge for them was how to bring her safely down the mountain.
Since Ms. Piggy was exhausted and fearful of walking on the rugged terrains, convincing her to walk with them was certainly next to impossible. That is why one of the hikers rushed back to their car to get a large canvas bag. They turned that bag into an improvised stretcher by attaching ropes, towels, and a branch to it. With the makeshift stretcher, the hikers can safely transport the distressed dog down the mountain.
Saving the 85+ pound Ms. Piggy was real teamwork for the hikers as all of them contributed something significant to make sure that she would be safe. Two male hikers carried the dog down the mountain while their female buddy cleared the way for them by removing bushes and branches that block their path. The usual 15-minute journey down the mountain took the hikers 45 minutes because of Ms. Piggy’s delicate situation. But it was all worth it when they safely put her into the car.
While the hikers were on their way home, they posted Ms. Piggy’s photos on the web. Fortunately, through that effort, they were able to locate her owner.
