5 Tips – Maintaining Your Dog’s Healthy and Shiny Coat

Mari January 20, 2023

Did you know that your overall health is reflected in your skin? Well, it’s not only a thing in humans!

Your pet’s health is also reflected in their coat. If you struggle with keeping it healthy, don’t worry! We’re here to help.

How To Maintain Your Dog’s Coat

1- Don’t Over-Bathe!

This is a common mistake. Over bathing can strip your dog’s skin of precious oils. You can keep your pet’s fur clean by brushing them and cleaning their paws after a walk.

2- Make Sure They Have A Healthy Diet.

If you feed your pup with good-quality food, give healthy treats and give them a balanced diet, they will have fantastic fur!
If you don’t know the best food for your dog, ask your vet for their recommendations.

3- Brush Them Regularly.

If you have a long-haired dog, you must take care of it every single day. Avoid tangles at all costs! Tangled fur dries slower than regular fur so that it can cause irritation and/or infections in their skin. Brush them regularly with a wire slicker. If your dog has short hair, use a rubber brush.

4- Don’t Forget To Exercise!

Exercise is key to a dog’s health.  Don’t worry if your pup gets dirty after exercising; you can brush them, clean their paws and remove any dirt that might be stuck on them.

5- Be Careful Of The Shampoo You’re Using.

If you bathe your dog yourself, be cautious with which products you are using. Human shampoo is too harsh for a dog’s skin. Only use products specifically designed for dogs!

Keeping your dog’s coat shiny and soft is easier than you might think. Remember that being a good dog owner means giving your friend good care and keeping them healthy and happy!
